Kongresshotel Potsdam Onboarding Day

The Brief

The Kongresshotel Potsdam is a conference hotel with over 500 beds, 35 conference rooms and 95 employees. The hotel has many special features due to the location and its unique architecture.

Until today, Silvia Timm, the Head of Human Resources, personally introduced new employees to her colleagues and went on a two-hour tour around the building. To improve our onboarding process and to become more efficient we created a new «personal tour» which is based on the concept of gamification (application of game-design elements and game principles in non-game contexts). From now on new employees get familiar with special features of the conference hotel independently and they have to consolidate their knowledge by answering detailed questions.

The Solution and Result

Together with the Marketing and HR department, various important spots were gathered and implemented into the backend of the software.

After a short introduction new employees get a tablet PC and explore the conference hotel in teams of two. For orientation the teams can use an indoor map and of course we push the exchange with other employees in order to get to know each other. The results and answers can be evaluated after the training.

This modern kind of training is very successful. New colleagues get to know each other quite fast due to the required teamwork. It is a time-saving supplement to the training of new employees for the HR manager and therefore an additional value. Open questions also achieved learning effects on the side of the human resources management. The firstday@work has become a central part of the Onboarding training.
