Implementation and effect «Connect USZ»

The University Hospital Zurich is one of the largest hospitals in Switzerland and offers primary health care  and cutting-edge medicine. More than 8,400 employees from 92 nations work at the University Hospital.

At the monthly Welcome Day for new USZ employees, the aim is to make the workplace experienceable in an interactive way and at the same time to give the employees an informative, creative and motivating first day at work. The digital rally "Connect USZ" makes this possible, plus much more.

Equipped with an iPad, the employees discover the USZ in small teams, which are deliberately designed to be interdisciplinary, and solve various tasks along the way. This is how they learn to orient themselves, first contacts are made and the importance of internal cohesion and teamwork become clear on the very first day. During the discovery tour, the various departments are introduced via video messages and important topics such as patient needs, hygiene, data protection and internal values are communicated. Even the collection of staff badges as well as café and croissants in the cafeteria were integrated in a creative task.

After the time is up, all teams meet again for a well-deserved lunch. Immediately it becomes clear that there is much more talking and laughing, because the rally has created a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere, strengthened the sense of togetherness, and created an unforgettable first day of work.

The implementation team can now also take a deep breath and enjoy the day, because the newly designed Welcome Day requires much less staff and the preparation is quick and uncomplicated. A successful day for the whole hospital.
